DIY Projects You Can Get Done This Summer

Summer is great for fun in the sun, but it’s also the perfect time to get stuff done! If you’re new to DIY it can be intimidating, but if you have a plan and the right tools, you can accomplish so much. The real trick is to avoid biting off more than you can chew on your first project. To help out, we’ve put together a list of some DIY renovation projects that we have confidence you can complete this summer. Now all you have to do is believe in yourself, and maybe get your hands a little dirty.

Add a tile backsplash

Add Tile Backsplash

Installing backsplash is an easy way to instantly create a beautiful accent or focal point in your kitchen. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be a master handyperson to learn how to install backsplash that looks flawless and adds value to your home. While it is a detail-oriented process, it can also be a quick one. Installing backsplash with mortar and grout can take only two days, with larger kitchens taking longer. We offer a wide selection of tile backsplash options that you can browse in our Gainesville/ Alachua and Ocala showrooms.

Replace a Guest Bathroom Vanity

Replace a Guest Bathroom Vanity

Upgrading your guest vanity is a great way to add value to your home while making your space more functional, and it’s easier than you’d think. When upgrading your vanity it’s important to think about whether you need some extra drawer space, want higher quality finishes, or are looking to add more counter space. One thing to keep in mind if you’re planning to upgrade to a larger vanity is that it’s recommended to keep 18” between the vanity and toilet and 30” between the front edge and the wall.

You might be wondering, how long does it take to replace a bathroom vanity? If you’re replacing it rather than adding an entirely new vanity, the whole process should only take 4-5 hours. Check out our bathroom renovations gallery if you’re looking for some style inspo for your home.

Update Your Flooring

Update Your Flooring

Think you need a professional to install your new flooring? Think again! With Luxury Vinyl Plank, you can get a more durable floor with the same visual appeal as hardwood for just a fraction of the cost. This beautiful flooring option is kid-proof, dog-proof, and moisture-proof, and it happens to be incredibly easy to install!

There are three main types of LVP planks that all have different installation methods:

  • Click lock vinyl plank flooring: The planks lock together for a perfect fit. This creates a floating floor, meaning that it will cover the flooring below without being fastened to it in any way. This makes it easy to install new flooring without having to remove the existing materials.
  • Loose lay vinyl plank flooring: The planks are attached by a pre-applied adhesive strip. This option also creates a floating floor.
  • Glue down vinyl plank flooring: The new flooring is attached to the subfloor by an adhesive. Pressure-sensitive adhesives, where the adhesive is on the bottom of the plank and bonds to the subfloor when pressure is applied, typically make for the easiest installation.

One rule of thumb when adding Luxury Vinyl Plank to your home: always buy about 20% more than you think you need. This will not only ensure that you have enough for now in the case of any miscalculations, but that you have some replacement pieces for the future if needed.
